Yayoi Kusama: You, Me and the Balloons
I love Yayoi Kusama’s work so it was wonderful to get up to Manchester and see the show.
The first room was fun but… I suppose this is more to do with me than with the staging. If I am walking through a room of giant tentacles I want more than just my visual sense evoked. It felt like the set up missed something. There was also the matter of the connections. The ceiling connections pulled me right out of the experience as I walked up the stairs. Now, don’t get me wrong, I still loved it but it could have been done better.
Moving on towards the open area where giant inflatables filled the space the play on scales was utterly delightful as were the inflatables themselves.
A Bouquet of Love I Saw in the Universe was a joy of exploration.
